The new job

So, the new job started up and has been going on for about a week. And now I pause to speculate on the sentence I just wrote: interesting how I defaulted to the passive voice, making the job the active noun, acting on the verb, in that statement; it's as if the job is the active participant, and I'm just along for the ride. In a way, that's how it feels, although to my credit, I've actually accomplished some work this past week and already feel like I'm helping out.

The two people it seems I'll be working with are another contractor named Mike, a just-out-of-school computer engineer who's been on for a month and who (I'm pretty sure it's him) has been described by some of the management as, alternately, a "project" and a "warm body", and I kind of see why; he's not unintelligent or unwilling to work, he just knows *nothing*, it seems, and for someone that's been there a month he quickly seems to be the weak link. He's a nice guy, though - a bit weird, but we'll probably end up hanging out some. The other is Billy, a second-term co-op who I am quickly seeing is running the entire show. He spent all of last summer getting up to speed and being an asset; this summer, he's pretty much running the show, and my job, it appears, will be to learn as much as I can from him before he takes off.

But, I think I'm well on my way, and have quickly become situated in my hotel room. It has Internet that's actually pretty decent, a TV with a video input (though only mono sound >.>) that actually works (my last hotel TV had a video composite input but no way to switch to it), and I already have my xbox360 hooked up.

I've become something of a demon at Guitar Hero 2 in the past few months, having become fairly active over at scorehero.com and posting several fairly impressive scores, including full combos of "Last Child" and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?", as well as an XBox Top 10 score on "Less Talk More Rokk" where I only missed 7 notes. I have my log, and all possible achievements in single player Xbox (1000 note streak was broken on "Monkey Wrench", which I FC'd, 500k was broken on "X-Tream", a shitty song that's good for point whoring, which I've also FC'd), and five stars on expert for all songs except for "Six" and "Jordan", which I've both four-starred. That includes downloaded content.

I picked up Forza 2 about a week ago and am in the process of building up my level, but that's a low priority. It's pretty fun with the microsoft racing wheel, which is a pretty cool device, full of force feedback and other, non-alliterative features.

I'm playing FFXI again. My HNMLS recently merged with another and we are faced with an innundation of people at all events. We are going to be a force, I can see; last night we claimed Nidhogg and killed in just over 30 minutes; I got to lot on not one, but two, adaberk abjurations, though my lots fell short. I've been dreaming of an adaberk for a long, long time. With it my DRK would be unstoppable, not that I ever come to anything as DRK.

Apart from that, just chillin', enjoying myself, getting lots and lots of sleep. I can tell I'm going to enjoy this job much more than my previous one, and think I'm going to enjoy the community a bit more as well. Here's hoping.
